    A-320

    Hello!

Am new to this site and am excited by what I have seen. Currently an Airbus captain with Northwest Airlines (14 years on the A-320) and will be following your project as it moves toward publication. The screens are spectacular! Keep up the great work.

    Best regards,

    Re: A-320

    Hello John,

Many thanks for visiting our website and our A-320 project. Always great to hear from our community.

What routes are you flying? Perhaps we could create a couple FSX missions for the A-320.

    Best regards,

    Jurgen

    Re: A-320

    Jurgen,

Hello........I fly mostly domestic routes out of DTW with an occasional trip to Mexico or Canada. With regard to missions.....right off the bat, the River Visual approach to KDCA rwy19 comes to mind. We manually enter the waypoints off the chart into the MCDU which gives us a usable vertical profile while we fly visually down the Potomac river. I'ts a blast!! Also, since the flight most often originates from DTW, there is not alot of time to plan, set up and brief the approach. Energy management is critical as one is usually vectored in high, close and often somewhat fast with little or no room to slow down, configure the airplane and fly the approach. Very easy to get behind and very difficult to catch up if you do and a missed approach often the result of poor planning and/or poor airmanship. Some others come to mind as well; Mexico City can be a challenge and there are some approaches into mountainous airfields that are also lot's of fun...... and they are all visual approaches which are the most difficult to fly in the Airbus. With ILS approaches, all you have to do is plug in the numbers and let the automation do the rest. Visuals are another thing and can really be a challenge......one has to use all the tricks one may have stashed up his sleeve from years of experience and then maybe, in the heat of battle, invent some new ones. Anyway, thanks for the note and I thought I'd toss out an idea or two for you.

    Best regards and Merry Christmas

    John

That River Visual sounds like a lot of fun.  I'm going to try that with some aircraft that I have now.

Which are the most difficult landings for Mexico?  I've heard that there are some bad ones over there.

    Re: A-320

    Bob,

The only cities I have been to in Mexico were Mexico City, Puerto Valarta and Cozumel. The weather was always VFR and none of those airports are all that difficult. Mexico City was probably the most challenging as you are routed high and in close for the northeast runways (4R or 5R, I can't remember) You have to be slow, 180kts, with the wheels out and at flaps 3 in the A320 before making the last, tight turn to final. The other airports were pretty straight forward. IFR may be a different story and without getting my charts out I could not say if those that I have been into on nice days might be more challenging in the soup. I have also heard that there are others that are pretty tricky to get into.I have used FSX to prepare myself for trips into unfamiliar airports and have found it to be extremely usefull. Jackson Hole was one for example.

That's all the info I have on Mexico, wish there was more....just have not been there that often.

    Best regards,

    John
